After Dave Grohl wore a ABBA shirt for his surprise appearance during Paul McCartneyheadlining at Glastonbury this weekend, Swedish pop giants Benny Anderson repay the favor with a foo fighters cover.

In a video posted on instagram, Andersson plays a piano rendition of the classic Foos song “Learn to Fly.” At the end of the clip, Andersson turns to the camera and smiles to reveal he’s wearing a Foo Fighters shirt.

Grohl is a huge ABBA fan and even told the BBC that he “cried like a baby” when he first heard the group’s comeback songs last year. In November 2021, ABBA released a new studio album titled Travel which featured the band’s first new recordings in 40 years.

Beyond the ABBA scream, Grohl’s appearance at Glastonbury was significant for being his first public performance since the Foo Fighters drummer’s unexpected death. Taylor Hawkins in March. Video de Grohl at the festival shows a letter T drawn on his hand, presumably in homage to Hawkins.

In related news, the group Someonein which Hawkins played before joining the Foo Fighters and even before joining Alanis Morissette, released an EP in tribute to the late drummer. The five-track collection, dubbed Sylvia sessionswas recorded in 1993 and is described in a press release as Hawkins’ “early recordings”.

Anyone, so called Sylviaalso notably presented the future Yes singer Jon Davison, who had been friends with Hawkins since childhood. Singer and guitarist History of Rice is the only remaining member of the group.

You can listen Sylvia sessions now through digital outlets. The EP is also available in NFT.
