In the late 80s and early 90s, Neneh Cherry was one of the coolest musicians in the world. Girl jazz legend Don Cherry, Neneh synthesized pop, rap, dance music and college rock into a seamless whole, snickering huge hooks and exhibiting huge levels of attitude even when she was the more vulnerable. Cherry only made a few albums in her heyday, but those albums left an impression. On a new album titled Versionsa bunch of other artists will pay homage to Cherry.

Last month, Neneh Cherry’s Swedish pop great Robyn covered the 1988 hit “Buffalo Stance,” with help from Mapei and Dev Hynes. Today, Cherry announced the imminent release of Versions, which will feature artists like ANOHNI, Jamila Woods and Sudan Archives taking tracks from Neneh Cherry. Today we hear Australian pop star Sia’s version of “Manchild,” the bittersweet 1989 ballad Cherry recorded with Nellee Hooper, Massive Attack’s 3D, and Cherry’s husband, Cameron “Booga Bear” McVey . Sia’s rendition of the song is fairly faithful; she does the rap verse and everything. In a press release, Sia shows her love to Neneh Cherry:

Neneh was my favorite artist when she came on the scene. I saved my pocket money for red Filas and dreamed that one day we would meet. When I was struggling with my mental health in my early twenties, I kind of ended up in their home where I was cared for like I was one of their own children. I called her husband on a suicide attempt, who had mentored me as an amazing music producer, and they gave me all the love I could ever want. I owe them a huge thank you and would sing “abc” to them if they asked me to. Neneh, my very first queen, Cameron my bonus daddy, I love you forever amen!

Below, check out Sia’s version of “Manchild,” the video for Neneh Cherry’s original, and the tracklist for Versions.

One of the largest and most popular music festivals in the world, Coachella, finally returned after a three-year hiatus. Grammy winners Doja Cat, Arooj Aftab, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Swedish House Mafia and The Weekend were some of the many artists lined up to perform at the weekend festival. However, the highlight of the event was Raveena Aurora, who became the first Indian woman to perform at Coachella. The festival was the first stop on his North American tour.

The Indian-born singer treated fans to an unexpected cover of the Bollywood song “Dum Maro Dum” from the film Hare Krishna Hare Ram (1971).

Who is Raveena Aurore?
Aurora is a 25-year-old musician who is known for blending contemporary R&B with traditional music from the South Asian diaspora in her art. She became popular with her debut track “Shanti” in 2017, and later released an independent album titled Lucid. The album was inspired by stories from his personal life.

Born to North Indian Sikh parents and raised in Queens and Connecticut, Aurora grew up listening to Bollywood songs alongside Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone. She started writing songs and experimenting with different genres when she was 13 years old.

Before her, Ritesh D’Souza of BREED was the first Indian artist to perform at the annual music and arts festival. He was joined by singer Tara Mae in 2015. This year Coachella has a slew of Asian talent on stage, including Mongolian rock band The Hu, Indonesian singer NIKI and Korean hip-hop trio EPIK HIGH.

The Weeknd covers Kanye and Drake https://triakel.com/the-weeknd-covers-kanye-and-drake/ Mon, 18 Apr 2022 12:02:00 +0000 https://triakel.com/the-weeknd-covers-kanye-and-drake/

The Weeknd took the Sunday night headliner at Coachella 2022 with no backup dancers, no elaborate costumes and virtually no rehearsal time – with nothing, really, except a little help from the Swedish House Mafia and one of modern music’s deepest hit lists.

The spot had been promised to Kanye West, but Ye unexpectedly dropped out earlier this month, leaving organizers in a bind. Rather than handing full responsibility for the headliner to an unprepared performer, Coachella opted for a two-for-one special, reserving SWH for the first half of the set and allowing born performer Abel Tesfaye to close out the first weekend.

The Weeknd was a safe choice, having previously headlined Coachella in 2018 and also performed in 2015 and 2012. He opened his part of the performance with the first of many live debuts from Dawn FM tracks, starting with “Sacrifice”. Swedish House Mafia provided help here, and they continued to help with the follow-up, “How Can I Make You Love Me?”

SWH left the stage before The Weeknd played his mega-hits “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Blinding Lights,” and he stayed solo for some of his most hyped features on other songs. artists, including Drake’s “Crew Love”. “, “Low Life” by Future, “Or Nah” by Ty Dolla $ign and, in an ode to the man he had replaced, “Hurricane” by Kanye West. The Weeknd closed out his 17-song set with his new collaboration with Swedish House Mafia, “Moth to a Flame”. Check out the performance video below.

If Coachella wasn’t in the cards, you can catch The Weeknd live on his next arena tour. Tickets are available here.

John Lennon’s son Julian covered ‘Imagine‘ to help raise funds for those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

This is the first time he has publicly performed his father’s iconic 1971 song. Next to the staple of him playing, Julian wrote: ‘Today, for the very first time, I publicly performed my father’s song,’Imagine‘. The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, which we all hope for.”

The release of the cover is part of the Stand Up for Ukraine Campaigna fundraising effort to help those affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Lennon performed an acoustic version of the song in a darkened room accompanied by candles.

He also explained why he chose to perform the song: “I always said that the only time I would consider singing”Imagine‘ would be if it was the end of the world.

“The war against Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy. As a human being and as an artist, I felt compelled to respond in the most meaningful way possible.”

Imagine‘ was originally released in 1971 and is considered John Lennon’s defining solo single. It was also her bestseller and reached number three on the US charts.

Other famous covers of the song include versions by Dolly Parton, Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.

It was covered by Gal Gadot and a host of stars at the start of the pandemic, which was widely criticized for being “deaf”.

Gadot responded to criticism of the viral video saying, “I had nothing but good intentions.”

In the video, which she uploaded on video in March at the start of the coronavirus crisis, the wonder woman The star sang the intro to the 1971 classic before a host of celebrities took turns singing parts of the song – including Natalie Portman, Jamie Dornan, Sia, Pedro Pascal, Zoe Kravitz, Will Ferrell and Norah Jones .

The song was widely derided, with Ricky Gervais calling it “terrible” in an interview with the BBC, while The New York Times said it was “not heaven”.

Is Disturbed’s new album a covers album? https://triakel.com/is-disturbeds-new-album-a-covers-album/ Sun, 10 Apr 2022 07:00:00 +0000 https://triakel.com/is-disturbeds-new-album-a-covers-album/

According to frontman David Draiman’s Instagram post today, Disturbed have finished work on their new album. He also revealed what appear to be the song titles on the new record – making us wonder if this is a covers album.

Why? Well look at the song titles, according to the hot tamales on Metal injection:

  1. Hey you
  2. Divide
  3. love to hate
  4. A part of me
  5. Will not back down
  6. unstoppable
  7. Take back your life
  8. fuel the fire
  9. evil man
  10. Do not tell me

All of these titles are, or appear to refer to, famous rock songs. “Hey You” is obviously the name of a Pink Floyd song, “Won’t Back Down” immediately makes us think of Tom Petty, and “Unstoppable” is a much-loved song by Sia, who made “Chandelier.” We’re actually excited about the idea of the band doing “Love to Hate”, a Slayer song that would be extremely cool to hear as a cover of Disturbed (it’s a lesser-known medium-paced track from Diabolusso it fits very well with the style of the Chicago band).

For the record: this is all the proof we have. We’re not trying to start a rumor here. It just made us wonder, see this post.

We’re not trying to throw shade or run wild speculation here – when we saw “Hey You”, we thought, Man, that’s 100% a song that Disturbed would cover, and it got us thinking. Disturbed is definitely known for their covers, including “The Sound of Silence” and “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You,” so that would make sense.

That said, the group also recently did an interview that seems to refute this ideawith Draiman saying:

“We’ve found some amazing new material that’s just pounding and rhythmic and aggressive and anthemic and poly-syncopated – Disturbed 101, everything people fell in love with us for in the first place. It’s been a really wonderful last few weeks, especially after two years of separation, not being able to really create. You can create on Zoom or some shit like that but it’s not the same thing, this inspiration in the moment in front of the other – the magic, the energy and the electricity happening – nothing really compares to this. It was a welcome rush into the system. Damn amazing. It sounds somewhere between Disease and ten thousand fistsfor sure.”

I guess we’ll see. But for the record, we are not against the idea of a cover album. That shit would actually be pretty interesting.

]]> Kelly Clarkson Covers ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’: Watch – Billboard https://triakel.com/kelly-clarkson-covers-abbas-dancing-queen-watch-billboard/ Thu, 07 Apr 2022 17:12:32 +0000 https://triakel.com/kelly-clarkson-covers-abbas-dancing-queen-watch-billboard/

It’s official: any song can sound sad when slowed down and played on the piano. Kelly Clarkson proved it when she turned one of ABBA’s happiest hits, “Dancing Queen,” into a soulful ballad on Kellyoke’s Thursday, April 7, The Kelly Clarkson Showfrom the live music cover series.

the American song contest The host usually takes the stage with her full band Y’all backing her up, but rather than employing 1970s backup vocalists, synths and tambourines to recreate ABBA’s famous Europop sound, she instead chose to bring only one other musician with her. Accompanied simply by a soulful solo piano, the three-time Grammy winner’s mighty belt had more room than ever to soar.

“Dancing Queen” was a huge hit for the four-piece Swedish band and remains their only Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 to date. Released in 1976 on their fourth LP Arrivalthe song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2015.

Although Clarkson didn’t choose to lean into “Dancing Queen” disco fever this time around, she’s still no stranger to jumping between genres. Kellyoke found the 39-year-old singer playing everything from Motown (“Dancing in the Street” by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas) to honky-tonk (“Boot Scootin’ Boogie” by Brooks & Dunn). Just this week, she got into ’90s boy band music, honoring guests on her talk show The Backstreet Boys with a cover of “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely.”

Kelly Clarkson covers ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ as an incredible ballad https://triakel.com/kelly-clarkson-covers-abbas-dancing-queen-as-an-incredible-ballad/ Thu, 07 Apr 2022 07:00:00 +0000 https://triakel.com/kelly-clarkson-covers-abbas-dancing-queen-as-an-incredible-ballad/

It takes a bit of confidence to take a song known for its goofy, disco vibe…and slow it down to a heartfelt ballad.

But if anyone can do it, Kelly Clarkson can!

And that’s what she did with ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” in Thursday’s “Kellyoke” segment, kicking things into high gear with the Swedish quartet’s 1976 hit.

Standing on stage with just his piano player, Clarkson wore all black and took the melody very seriously, turning it into an emotional roller coaster. It’s a big departure from his usual take on the tracks, which tend to feature the full Y’all band as a backup.

We’re also somewhat surprised that this is her first time covering ABBA on the show! But there may be a good reason for choosing the song: Clarkson currently co-hosts (with Snoop Dogg) the “American Song Contest,” a show modeled after the “Eurovision Song Contest,” and On April 6, 1974, ABBA won the “Eurovision Song Contest” with their song “Waterloo”.

From there, ABBA quickly took the world by storm with their happy, bubbly hits.

Last November, the band released their first album in 40 years, “Voyage.” It debuted in the United States on Billboard’s Hot 200 charts at No. 2, a better career for the group.

]]> Tattooed former Hells Angels biker Dayne Brajkovich cheekily covers his ink after being charged https://triakel.com/tattooed-former-hells-angels-biker-dayne-brajkovich-cheekily-covers-his-ink-after-being-charged/ Thu, 07 Apr 2022 07:00:00 +0000 https://triakel.com/tattooed-former-hells-angels-biker-dayne-brajkovich-cheekily-covers-his-ink-after-being-charged/

Cheeky biker tattooed head-to-toe in gang logos is bending laws ordering him to cover them with MAKE-UP

  • Former Hells Angels biker Dayne Brajkovich has been accused of displaying the Hells Angels badge in public
  • New anti-gang laws mean bikers can’t display club names on clothing or skin, causing him a major problem
  • Brajkovich has since covered up a club tattoo by carving the words “f**k the police” in its place
  • He also covered another tattoo with black bars and colored in a diamond on his chest.

A former Hells Angels biker has ‘f**k the police’ tattooed on his forehead in an attempt to cover up existing gang tattoos, after tough laws banned him from displaying club badges .

Dayne Brajkovich is covered in ink from head to toe, but recently had to tweak some of his Hells Angels markings slightly to get around Western Australia’s new anti-cycling laws.

Laws prohibit bikers from displaying their club logos – whether gang patches, stickers or tattoos – in public.

This decision led the police to joke. Brajkovich will have to wear makeup to go about his business.

Months after the laws were passed, Brajkovich was accused of allegedly displaying club badges in public – but footage shows he took drastic action to comply with the legislation.

Dayne Brajkovich is covered in head-to-toe tattoos but has tweaked a few of his Hells Angels markings slightly to circumvent Western Australia’s new anti-cycling laws. A tattoo on his forehead reads “f**k the police”, in place of a supposed badge. Black stripes also covered another tattoo while a diamond on his chest was colored in black ink

The photo posted above shows the biker now has black stripes inked on his skin over a large Hells Angels tattoo on his head.

The words “Sergeant-at-Arms” were also covered up. A “1%” tattoo on his chest is now a black diamond, but the words “revenge” and “enforcer” are still clearly branded around Brajkovich’s head.

He is also infamous for his distinctive “HAMC” – the acronym for Hells Angels Motorcycle Club – tattooed on his nose, but it is unclear if this still remains.

The biker had received the tattoos before the new laws were introduced last Christmas and had been warned that he might have to wear makeup to cover his ink.

It is understood Brajkovich was kicked out of the Hells Angels in February after he had a row with senior members of the club.

In March 2021, WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson called Brajkovich’s attire at a Perth Magistrates’ Court sentencing hearing “unacceptable”.

He wore a jersey emblazoned with the initials of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club HAMC and with “HOF CITY” on it, believed to be a nod to a chapter of the gang in the German town of Hof.

Mr Dawson said Brajkovich’s tattoos and clothing are “completely disrespectful not only to the court but to the community”.

“It’s not us who are hypersensitive to what people wear, it’s an absolute challenge saying ‘I’m outside the law and I’m going to stay outside the law’.”

Brajkovich is seen after these tattoos were changed, following new anti-gang laws in WA

Acting WA Police Commissioner Colonel Blanch suggested in October last year that cyclists will have to cover their tattoos with makeup or bandages.

“I would definitely start with things like dressings or makeup or have them removed or alternatively people can choose the option of not living in Western Australia if this law is passed,” he said.

The maximum penalties for wearing prohibited insignia are 12 months in prison, a fine of $12,000 for individuals or up to $60,000 for “corporations”.

Brajkovich was fined $800 for criticizing Rebels boss Nick Martin just weeks before he was murdered in December 2020.
