MANILA, Philippines — International pop star Taylor Swift will receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from New York University (NYU) and speak during debut drills at Yankee Stadium on May 18.
According to a variety reportTaylor will be hailed as Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa.
Taylor will join three promotions that day and will be part of the current promotion’s “traditional” ceremony.
The institution also announced that that evening the university will also host the start of the classes of 2020 and 2021 which did not have a traditional ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I cannot overstate how thrilled I am to gather in person with graduates, parents, faculty and honorees for the launch of NYU,” NYU President Andrew Hamilton said in a statement.
“Since 2019, we have been deprived of the celebratory and communal joy of the beginning, and its absence is keenly felt. Few groups of graduates deserve more celebration than these promotions: their disrupted pursuit of studies, isolated by a formidable pandemic, these graduating classes – 2022, 2021 and 2020 – have stood out for their courage, grace and patience. We meet at Yankee Stadium with a renewed sense of appreciation for the act of celebrating together in person, a recognition of the tremendous accomplishments of our graduates and a respect for their character and perseverance,” he added.
