Ex-Five Finger Death Punch Drummer Launches Death Metal Band

Since leaving Five Finger Death Punch, drummer Jeremy Spencer has remained active, primarily with his band Psycho Synner. But he takes an even heavier direction by launching the new death metal band, Semi-Rotted.

The band just released their debut EP, Deader Than Dead, and two of the songs can be heard below. The band includes Spencer, who now leads the band, along with guitarist Shawn McGhee, bassist Alessandro “AP” Paveri and drummer Steve Carey. Additionally, it’s also worth noting that Lorna Shore’s Will Ramos appears on the track “Torture Congregation,” which is one of the two tracks featured below. The other track featured is “Shotgun Symphony”, while the four-song collection also includes “Hammer Teeth” and title track Deader Than Dead.

“I kept hearing Lorna Shore on [SiriusXM’s] Liquid Metal and on playlists,” recalls Spencer. “Will does some really unique things with his voice. It’s incredible. When they were in Las Vegas I went to the show and was blown away. We reached out and Will returned his voice in about two days. It is at the top of the genre. It’s a collaboration that kills.”

Although he’s known for a more commercially accessible brand of heavy music, Spencer says he’s been a fan of death metal since high school, counting Death and Obituary as favorites. He recalled catching Obituary on tour with Sacred Reich, adding, “I had never seen anything like it, but it was fucking awesome.”

“I’ve become a fan again,” says Spencer, revisiting his love of death metal with new music. “I decided, ‘I’m going to make a record like this. “”

About the new set, Spencer says, “When you listen to this, I hope you have a fun and solid listening experience,” he stops. “He’s meant to be listened to from start to finish. Enjoy every moment. He kicks your ass, grabs you and doesn’t let go.”
