October 28 (Reuters) – Ten works of art showing Stan Lee on the covers of his comics and signed by the late Marvel superhero creator will go up for auction on Wednesday, with winning bidders getting both physical and digital versions of the canvases.

Pop artist Rob Prior started working with the man behind, among others, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Black Panther in 2017 on “The Legacy Collection: Portraits of Stan Lee”, and portrayed him as his famous characters or in cameo images.

Prior, who is ambidextrous, has produced 95 large canvases depicting Lee, who has also made appearances in film adaptations of his books, on covers of Marvel and the Golden Age of Comics.

“Stan’s favorite thing in the world was cameos… and what better way to honor him than to have him be the cameos of all of his favorite comics,” Prior told Reuters.

Mogul Productions, a film and entertainment marketplace for non-fungible tokens, is auctioning ten of the works as NFT starting at 5:00 p.m. PT Wednesday (0000 GMT Thursday). The sale will last 48 hours.

“You can have the NFT right in front of you and display it and stuff, but have the original and then look at where he signed it, I think that’s important,” Prior said.

“So I wanted to make sure the buyer had both.”

Prior said Lee also signed blank canvases for future characters.
