So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Every week, we review a handful of new albums (from all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie” and talk about what’s coming out of metal. We post music news, track premieres and more all day. We update a weekly playlist of some of our current favorite tracks. Here is a daily summary with a bunch of interesting and recently released songs in one place.

MONALEO – “BODY BAG”

Houston rapper Monaleo has risen rapidly, and songs like disturbing, hard-hitting, and instantly satisfying “Body Bag” are the reason.

SMINO – “MORNING”

Smino revealed that his long-awaited new album Luv 4 Rent arrives next week (10/28 via Motown), with the release of this new soulful rap song, “Matinee.”

PHOENIX – “WINTER SOLSTICE”

We’re still a month away from the true winter solstice, but you can celebrate early with this Phoenix song from the upcoming album. Alpha Zulu. The song sounds like it’s going to be a full EDM banger, but they stay just short of a simmer. tease!

BILLY NOMATES – “FORCEFIELD SABOTEUR”

Here’s another gem from Billy Nomates’ upcoming second album. Its mix of synthesizers and country flourishes is totally unique. “I think it’s about the inevitable weak fight against sentiment and progress,” says alter ego Tor Maries.

BONOBO – “DEFENDER”

British producer Bonobo is back with a beautifully hard-hitting new single.

FATBOI SHARIF x NOFACE – “STATIC VISION”

Fatboi Sharif and noface release a collaborative album, Preaching in Havananext week (10/27) via PTP, and here’s the first single “Static Vision”, a loud, experimental, drumless rap song.

HYD – “FALLEN ANGEL”

Hyd’s hypnotic new single “Fallen Angel” was co-written and produced by SOPHIE and AG Cook. This is their first full album, CLEARING.

KNUCKLE PUCK – “GROUNDGROUND DAY”

Knuckle Puck signed to Pure Noise and their debut single for the label is “Groundhog Day”, a bright, catchy song that oscillates between gritty pop punk and dreamy indie-emo.

PIVOT GANG – “AANG”

Chicago rap group Pivot Gang – whose current lineup consists of Saba, Joseph Chilliams, MFnMelo and Frsh Waters – are back with a new single that finds them excellent on a very laid-back production.

SMUT – “UNINTERRUPTED THOUGHT”

The latest single from Chicago-based band Smut’s new album how the light felt is “Uninterrupted Thoughts”. “It’s a love song!” says singer Tay Roebuck. “It’s pre-relationship to mid-relationship and the kind of mystical fate that can bring people together. The first verse is before our couple meet, where they don’t realize they’re wandering and lost. Not necessarily looking for each other, but when they finally meet? They’re lost. The second verse is about them finally feeling the missing pieces filled in. They do mundane daily life, but new life is theirs. given simply by holding hands and knowing that they’ve found each other.

UNLOVED – “NUMBER IN MY PHONE” (BLACK SCIENCE ORCHESTRA REMIX)

Unloved shared some remixes of “Number in My Phone” from this year’s incredible The pink album, by Ashley Beedle under her cover of Black Science Orchestra. It takes the rather gloomy original and turns it into an elegiac disco.

MDOU MOCTAR – “IBITLAN”

“Ibitlan is a love song,” says producer and bassist Mikey Coltun of this track from Mdou Moctar’s second volume of their Niger EP series. “Mdou sings of his love for a woman, comparing her to a beautiful valley crossed by a stream, how her skin is a yellow flower and her smile is like lightning. This particular recording was made in Agadez in 2017 at a wedding. Mdou and I had been playing three weddings a day for about a month and a half on this trip. It was like a bootcamp. I liked it. Ibitlan is one of Mdou’s oldest songs and is covered by just about every Tuareg guitarist. We played versions of this song that were over 20 minutes long. This is definitely one of my favorites to play! Niger Vol 2 will be released digitally on October 25.

TANUKICHAN – “MAKE BELIEVE”

Tanukichan, the collaboration between Bay Area songwriter Hannah van Loon and Toro y Moi’s Chaz Bear, is back with its first new music since 2018, new shoegazey single “Make Believe.”

CHURCH GIRLS – “I HATE THIS HOUSE”

Philadelphia punk rockers Church Girls are back with new single “I Hate This House,” and this one is a real catchy anthem with a huge sound.

PAT TRAPLAND – “VIBES”

Florida rapper Trapland Pat tackles a funky horn-fueled beat on new single “Vibes.”

GENESIS OWUSU – “BE INSPIRED”

Following the release of “GTFO” this summer, Genesis Owusu has shared another new single, the propulsive and funky “Get Inspired.”

OVERSIZED – “DISSOLVE”

Oversize Free In the ceiling EP out on Church Road tomorrow (10/21), and here’s the grungy, shoegazy new single “Dissolve.”

TONY SHHNOW – “Can’t Say I’m Broke”

Atlanta rapper Tony Shhnow releases his new project Take motivation on November 10, and this new single finds him rapping to a giddy beat.

TALLIES – “SPECIAL” FT MICHAEL PETER OLSEN (CELLO VERSION)

Toronto band Tallies shared this alternate version of “Special” (from this year Patina) which features Michael Peter Olsen on cello and puts an orchestral spin on the song.

UNI AND THE URCHINS – “SUBURBIA SUBHUMAN”

Uni and the Urchins are back with this glamorous new single and a gripping video from bassist Kemp Muhl.

ALICE SANDAHL (LA LUZ) – “CHARACTER”

Alice Sandahl, who plays keyboards at La Luz, will release a solo album Brilliant Blue this week. You can get a taste with this dreamy song and well shot video.

ORBITAL AND SLEAFORD MODS – “DIRTY RAT”

Two great tastes that taste great together: Orbital and Sleaford Mods. This is the first single from Orbital’s new collaboration album.

MOZART ESTATE (LAWRENCE OF FELT) – “RELATIVE POVERTY”

Lawrence of cult bands Felt and Denim is back with a new album and a new moniker, Mozart Estate. ‘Appear! Ker Ching! And the possibilities of modern shopping’ will be released in January. It’s the first single.

ALICE BOMAN – “COMING SOON”

The Swedish singer-songwriter releases her new album The space between tomorrow and here’s one last taste before it’s all out.

SWEET COBRA – “COATS”

Chicago punk/metal/alternative rock band Sweet Cobra have announced their first album in seven years, and you can read more about the lead single “Coats” here.

FLYING LOTUS – MUSIC FROM THE HIT GAME SHOW OZZY’S DUNGEON

Flying Lotus released the soundtrack to “Ozzy’s Dungeon,” a segment he directed into a horror anthology film V/H/S/99. It satirizes 90s kids game shows, using playful synths to give it a nostalgic feel. Learn more here.

BIG|BRAVE – “SCULPTORS, FARRIERS AND KNIVES”

Canadian heavy trio BIG|BRAVE have announced their upcoming LP with the release of the single and album opener “carvers, farriers and knaves”. It comments on the subjugation of femininity, with a giant, buzzing sound. Learn more here.

YOUNG FATHERS – “I SAW”

“He’s a fat bully with shit up his leg, always swaggering. That pamphlet through your door blaming the establishment and immigrants for all that’s wrong. The stench of a long-dead empire, dragging, a psychological hammer to your head with every step. The illusion,” Scottish trio Young Fathers write of their new song “I Saw.” It’s a super dark cut, only their second single since 2018. Find out more here.

THE CIA (TY & DENEE SEGALL & EMMETT KELLY) – “IMPERSONATOR”

The CIA announced their second album Surgery channel today with the single “Impersonator”. The song has dense bass and synths, and dance-ready vocals from Denée Segall. Learn more here.
