Midas man, a biopic film about music director Brian Epstein added Rosie Day (Outlander, Sprite Dust) to the roaster of actors. Day will play British singer Cilla Black in the biopic. Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund will be the director.
Åkerlund has directed films such as Lords of Chaos, Polar, and spun. The screenplay was written by Jonathan Wakeham, based on a story by Brigit Grant.
Cilla Black was born Priscilla Maria Veronica White and was without a doubt one of the UK’s most successful and beloved performers. She has improved British popular culture for decades, having had 19 UK ‘Top 40’ singles with two No.1 songs, 15 studio albums and sold-out concerts at some of the world’s most famous concert halls. John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote his first song, “Love of The Loved”. John Lennon was the one who introduced Black to Epstein.
Midas man will also star Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, Omari Douglas and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Epstein.
Midas man follows Epstein’s meteoric rise at the age of 25, discovering a multitude of musicians such as Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and of course, the Beatles. He died in 1967 when he was only 32 from an accidental overdose of sleeping pills with alcohol.
The film will be shot in Liverpool, London and the United States this fall, with a release date slated for 2022.
