Pink Floyd was born in London in 1965 and became one of the most revered progressive rock bands of all time. The band’s name was created by original member Syd Barrett from the names of American blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The band broke up in 1994 and had several reunions, including one earlier this year. Pink Floyd was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2008, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden awarded Pink Floyd the Polar Music Prize for his contribution to music modern.
