Swedish pop star Sofia Karlberg has released her single / music video, “Hate My Guts”, a song from her upcoming EP.
Speaking of “Hate My Guts,” Sofia shares, “The fear of engagement and having trouble letting people in is something I’ve had issues with for as long as I can remember. wrote the song with two of my closest friends not only as an excuse for those I excluded, but also as a reason to open up and let me in, which makes the song really special to me.
Like the EP’s first single, “Do It Again,” “Hate My Guts” showcases the talents of Sofia Karlberg, Victoria Ross and producer / songwriter Martin Bustgaard.
Sofia first gained international attention with her reimagined versions of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” and Chainsmokers’ “Paris”, the former racking up 114 million views on YouTube and over 140 million streams on Spotify.
2019 saw her release her EP, Impeccable spirit, which she backed with a string of original hits, collecting over 1.5 billion streams.
A solitary guitar opens “Hate My Guts”, followed by the penitent voice of Sofia, overflowing with sad but bewitching timbres. It’s a remarkable voice, full of poignant emotions and lush textures. A heart-like beat imbues the song with a kinetic rhythm topped with soft, shimmering layers of pop colors.
“There’s only one heart that can take / I can feel it now that you’re not here / I know too well that I should just forgive myself / For screwing this up / But I hate still my guts. “
Both seductive and beautifully crafted, the icing on the cake of “Hate My Guts” is Sofia Karlberg’s creme de la creme voice.
