Islamabad, July 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Famous singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has come on the radar of the Pakistan Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) after discovering his secret bank accounts with a balance of over Rs 60 million, Samaa TV reported.
According to reports, FBR imposed a tax of 43 million Pakistani rupees on Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and gave him a month to pay.
The FBR discovered that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan holds several secret accounts, but he claimed he only had accounts in two banks, Samaa TV reported.
Sources have revealed that Intelligence and Investigations and Land Revenue have traced more than 60 million rupees to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s secret bank accounts.
FBR contacted Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to explain the transactions, however, after receiving no satisfactory response, ordered him to pay Rs. 43 million in taxes within a month.
Last month, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that in the budget for the fiscal year 2022-23, the ruling coalition government had decided to redistribute the economic burden on the poor by taxing the rich, Dawn reported.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad after a federal cabinet meeting, he said: “The policy we have formulated in the budget is that we have decided to redistribute the burden on the poor. We will tax the wealthy citizens so that the poor be assured of the government relieving them by taking different measures and also taxing the wealthy.”
The Prime Minister hoped that the privileged would “willingly” support the country at this critical moment and show a spirit of “sacrifice”. “The government will collect hundreds of billions of rupees in taxes from this,” he said.
