SKID ROW’s DAVE ‘SNAKE’ SABO Praises New Vocalist ERIK GRÖNWALL: “It’s So Exciting To See Where It’s Going”

Dave “Snake” Sabo praised SKID RANKthe new singer Erik Grönwallsaying that the first song the band released with the ex-HEAT singer had received a much better response than he had anticipated.

Greenwallwho auditioned for the competition show “Swedish Idol” in 2009 singing a cover of SKID RANKit is “18 and Life”joined the group last January replacing PZ Theartwho had been in SKID RANK for more than six years. Art played his last gig with SKID RANK in February before being officially kicked.

End of March, SKID RANK released their first single with Greenwall, “The Gang is All There”. The song is the title track from the band’s upcoming album, which will arrive on October 14 via earMUSIC.

SKID RANK played his first gig with Greenwall on March 26 at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada as a supporting act for the rescheduled dates for SCORPIO“Sin City Nights” residence.

Asked in a recent interview with Tim Louie how the SKID RANK fans responded Erik, Snake said: “The first night, the first half of our set, people were kind of like, ‘Hmmm. What is that? When we were at ‘Monkey Business’which is the penultimate song, when we started ‘Monkey Business’, I knew we had them. We everything I knew it; we everything felt it. And at the end, “Youth Gone Wild”everyone was standing.

“And here’s the great thing about this guy. This show was a Saturday night – first show. Sunday morning he texts us all: ‘Can we all get together and discuss last night’s show You let me know what I did wrong and how I can improve and what do you expect of me as a leader. And I was, like, ‘This shows so much…’ Everything first, it’s a big aspect of his work ethic – being able to be so open to criticism at such an early stage.

“Being a musician, there’s a lot of fragility that goes with it; it’s a fragile existence for a lot of people,” the guitarist continued. “Getting criticism, most people struggle with that; I certainly my history, that’s for sure. And here he comes, not knowing anybodynot knowing any of us – he met scotti [Hill, guitar] a few times when we were on the road, maybe he met me a few times, met Rachel [Bolan, bass] a couple of times – but to have that confidence to go, ‘Yeah, man. Tell me, how can I get better? How can I be a better leader for SKID RANK? What do I have to do? What did I do wrong last night? Let’s go. And it turned out that we all had a collective discussion – not about him, but about us. And that was a big breakthrough, I thought – it wasn’t about what we thought he needed to do better; it was about what we everything collectively had to do better. And that’s how it should be. Because you are all up there; you are all on this stage together. You are all fighting for the same thing. You want to connect with that audience as a unit, as a group, and create a symbiotic relationship with the audience during that hour that you’re playing. And so it was a big breakthrough in our relationship. And we’ve only had breakthroughs – since the first time he sang “The Gang is All There” to all the other songs he sang while he was in Sweden to those nine shows we did with the SCORPIO finishing the record in Las Vegas rehearsing new material for the title set on our scales. And it’s all been, like… I shake my head in a bit of disbelief and wait for the other shoe to fall off, because that’s my cynical side. But it’s been such an amazing experience and I’m so grateful – we all are – to have had the opportunity to be a part of it all, the way it happened. And it’s so exciting to see where it’s going and just to be on the ride. I can’t wait for people to hear the record.

“So far, the response to “The Gang is All There” has been a lot better than I expected; it was then positive, man,” Snake added. “And you know what? Every band can vouch for that. Every band has a ton of haters – people hate you and hate you and hate you. So the good thing is we have less haters for this song than we do. have in the past. [Laughs]”

Last April, Sabo told radio station Des Moines, Iowa Laser 103.3 this SKID RANK “I came to a place with” Art “where things were going in two different directions and there was no denying that we were going to have to make a change.”

He continued: “We were very, very aware of Erik. Erik [and H.E.A.T.] had opened up for us in 2019 during a European tour we did, so we were aware of his talent. And we were also made aware of his audition tape that he made for “Swedish Idol”the Swedish version of ‘American Idol’. And his audition tape was doing ’18 and life’ and he did an amazing job. Obviously, it got our full attention. And so he recently made another one, a newer version of ’18 and life’, which again caught our attention. So when things happened, that we knew we had to make a change, he was the first and only person we spoke to. We immediately started making music for him, and he immediately started cutting vocals.”

Sabo added: “It happened extremely fast – so fast that we were able to release the single just in time for this residency which [we did] with the SCORPIO in Las Vegas. And we were able to keep all of our timelines and everything intact. And, truly, the stars couldn’t have aligned better for us to get through this the way it happened.”

Bolan said recently Merger from Detroit WRIF radio about GreenwallAdding ‘s to the band: “Just the way he does things and his work ethic is the likes of which I’ve never seen other than the four of us who are already in the band. He doesn’t stop so long that he didn’t do it perfectly. Whether it’s his version, what he thinks is right, or what we think is right, he works hard – he works hard. And you can see why he got the success he’s had overseas because he’s a really, really hard-working singer who takes care of his instrument and takes pride in his craft.”

Rachel also reflected on SKID RANKfirst concert of Greenwallsaying, “Honestly, man, from the minute he opened his mouth…His timing is impeccable. We knew it was going to be cool. And every show got even better, because we’re learning the rhythm of the other on stage. When I walked away from that show, I said to Erik, I go, ‘That was the first show. I can’t wait to show a hundred. It’s going to be amazing.'”

Bolan previously talked about how Erik came to join SKID RANK during an appearance in an episode of SiriusXMit is “Trunk Nation LA Invasion”recorded a few hours before SKID RANKwith the Swedish singer. “We toured together. HEAT was on tour with SKID RANK. What year was it? ’18? And we would hear it every night from the locker room,” he said. “And a few times I was like, ‘Man, listen to this guy sing. He’s phenomenal. And then I forget who I am. ‘ said, someone who was with us, ‘Yeah, he won ‘Idol’ in Sweden.’ And I was, like, ‘Man, he’s got pipes.’ And I was listening. Then I went behind the dash a few times. And in my head, I’m like, ‘Wow! When SKID RANK has free time, I’m going to get in touch with this guy and start a side project with him. And apparently, that never happened. But over time and we got to the point where we were with pz and other things, Erik was our first…i said Snake, I go, ‘We have to check this guy.’ And with Snake and the rest of the guys, and Nick, our producer, Nick Raskulinecz, were, like, ‘That’s the guy, man. Send him songs. So we sent her songs that we were recording, just with a vocal guide on them, and they came back about 24 hours later, and we were like, ‘Okay. He’s the guy. Get him on a plane. Let’s do this.'”

Greenwall sang HEATthe last four studio albums of — “Address the Nation” (2012),“Tear Down the Walls” (2014),“Into the Great Unknown” (2017) and “HEAT II” (2020) — before leaving the group in October 2020.

Greenwall was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in March 2021. Six months later he announced he was cancer free after receiving a bone marrow transplant in August. “A wonderful, anonymous human being somewhere in the world donated his blood cells so that I could have a second chance at life,” he said. Headbanger lifestyle in January. “Sometimes I have tears in my eyes when I think about it. It’s so beautiful that someone who has no connection with me wanted to do this for me. He/she doesn’t know that blood cells have been for me. It’s completely anonymous.

last september, Greenwall released their cover version of “18 and Life” via all streaming platforms.

In 2018, Greenwall debuted in the United States to 10 million viewers in NBClive broadcast from Andrew Lloyd Webber‘the sand Tim Riceit’s music “Jesus Christ Superstar”. In the same way john legend, Alice Cooper, Sara Bareilles and others, Erik played the key role of Simon Zealots.
