Since the start of the streaming era a few years ago, women in music have continued to dominate the Swedish-founded music platform as their catalog has amassed billions, if not millions, of hits.
Although they rose to fame decades ago, some of them have remained relevant as many of their songs have continued to grow in recent years.
From OG diva Mariah Carey to chart-topping hip-pop stars like Nicki Minaj, here are the most popular songs by singers from the early 90s through the 2000s.
Mariah Carey – Fantasy
Mariah is the original diva. Ever since she rose to fame in the early 90s, the singer has never failed to amaze fans and the general public with her crazy voice, making her a household name.
The singer’s most popular song on Spotify right now is “Fantasy”, with over 200,165,593 streams to date.
According to Song Meanings and Facts, the song is about admiring one person, but the other cannot be with them in reality. Mariah is apparently in love with a man, and she can’t stop thinking about him all the time.
Beyoncé – Perfect Duo
From the late 90s to the early 2000s, Queen Bey herself. The singer rose to fame with her bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, for the “Destiny’s Child” trio.
Beyoncé made a name for herself when she debuted as a solo artist, and she’s never failed since.
His most popular song on Spotify to date is his unexpected collaboration with British singer Ed Sheeran for the song “Perfect”. The track was later retitled “Perfect Duet” and now has 687,864,311 hits.

Lady Gaga – Shallow
Although she was criticized for her racy outfits and her “weird” way of expressing herself during the first years of her career in the late 2000s, Gaga never stopped chasing her dreams, making her one of the most iconic female figures in the industry.
In 2018, the singer shocked the world as she ventured into the world of cinema with her acting debut in the film ‘A Star Is Born’.
One of the songs included in the film is his duet with Bradley Cooper, “Shallow”, which is currently his number one song on Spotify.
The track has a whopping 1.7 billion streams to date.
Nicki Minaj – Tuse
Nicki has redefined hip hop music for women since her debut in 2011 for her album “Pink Print”. Since then, the rapper has established herself as one of the most notable female rappers in the industry.
Surprisingly, her debut single “Super Bass” is not the number one song in her catalog as it was dethroned by her feature on KAROL G’s song “Tusa”.
The track has amassed 1.2 billion streams to date.
