I’m around, watching you kiss her, oh
I’m right here, why can’t you see me? Oh
And I give it all
I’m not the guy you bring home, ooh
I keep dancing on my own, ah

Learn these lyrics, Philadelphia sports fans, because you’re gonna start hearing this song a lot more. It’s called “Dancing on My Own” originally sung by Swedish singer-songwriter Robyn.

With every playoff win, we’ve seen the Phillies sing the song in the Clubhouse. He played on the speakers at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night after the Phillies’ 9-1 victory over the Braves, before “High Hopes” by Harry Kalas. It crept into local bar playlists and was heard from the tailgate speakers all day before the undefeated Eagles put the Cowboys to bed on Sunday.

Phillies Beat Writer Todd Zolecki discovered exactly how this song became the 2022 team anthem. My Own’, ‘Cold Heart’ and a few others. We’ve been playing these songs since the beginning of the season. They come in order after wins, so everyone knows what songs are going to play and everyone knows the lyrics to those songs.

Garrett confirmed, “there’s no deeper meaning or story, other than it’s an absolute banger and we love singing it in the locker room.” For the record, they have the Tiësto cover of Calum Scott’s song on their playlist, but it’s the Robyn version that the city adopts.

As Philly Fans, we welcome this song into our lives for a few more weeks, and then years afterward! Here are some songs that hold a special place in our hearts for the same reason.
