Now, further controversy is brewing behind the scenes, as organizers of the highly anticipated event tried to stiffen the ‘Save Your Tears’ singer when he stepped in to replace the ‘Donda’ rapper as the lead. Sunday festival poster later this month.
According to page 6The Weeknd threatened to pull out if he wasn’t paid like Kanye, who was set to earn $8 million plus $500,000 in production fees.
The post also said the “Blinding Lights” singer was the favorite to replace Kim Kardashian’s ex-husband, who abandoned from Coachella less than two weeks ago.
Another knowledgeable insider TMZ that Kanye seemed ready to walk away from his engagement for a while after never really preparing, like other artists have for months before taking the stage at the gig.
According to the site, the Grammy-winning rapper also had a team in place to talk to producers, but there was still a lot of work to do to prepare for the gig.
The producers and organizers of the event would have been surprised by his choice; nevertheless, he had no plan in place to cover his niche.
However, it has been claimed that The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia will headline, although this is yet to be confirmed.
“Even after Coachella unveiled the new roster on Wednesday, a contract for The Weeknd, who threatened to leave on an hour’s notice if he did not receive the same contract as Kanye, was not in place.”
Later, it was reported that the former would receive the same amount as Kanye for his involvement.
“Faced with the possibility of a second major artist leaving Coachella at the last minute, Anschutz’s company relented and agreed to pay The Weeknd the same amount on Wednesday.”
