Times, the singer wowed fans with her singing talent

Born into a prominent family of Bengali musicians, Monali Thakur grew up learning the nuances of music from his father Shakti Thakur. She began her training in Indian classical music at a very young age. His sister Mehuli Thakur also followed in her father’s footsteps and joined the Bengali music industry.

Meanwhile, Monali burst onto the Hindi music scene with her appearance on the singing reality show Indian Idol 2. While Monali failed to win the title of the show, she quickly did her Bollywood reading debut with Zara Zara Touch Me in the 2008 release Race.

The song pictured on Katrina Kaif became an instant hit and gave Monali the much needed break. She also sang the song Khwaab Dekhe from the film.

However, Monali’s abilities are not limited to music and she has acted in many Bengali films. She was also seen in director Nagesh Kukunoor’s Lakshmi. The singer is married to Swedish restaurateur Maik Richter who was seen with her in the Dil Ka Fitoor clip.

As Monali celebrates her 37th birthday today, we take a look back at her musical journey and list some of her popular tracks:

Sawaar Diving, Lootera

She delivered some of the most melodious tracks of recent years. One such song was Sawaar Loon from the 2013 release Lootera. The beautiful song depicted the love story between protagonists Sonakshi Sinha and Ranveer Singh in perfect sync with the 1960s vibe the movie was based in.

Moh Moh Ke Dhaage

Another important success in Monali’s career was Moh Moh Ke Dhaage from the film Dum Laga Ke Haisa. She won her first-ever National Reading Awards singing with this song and is still among her best songs.

Main Nachoon Aaj Chham Chham Chham, Baaghi

Monali’s voice complements the on-screen depiction of rain with Shraddha Kapoor’s dance moves. The song is one of the most played T-series songs on YouTube and has nearly 10 crore views.

Badri Ki Dulhaniya

If you needed inspiration to hit the dance floor, then this upbeat title track by Badrinath Ki Dulhania is tailor-made for you. The upbeat song is just contagious.

Tune Maari Entriyaan, Gunday

The rhythms and lyrics of the song can make anyone dance.

I wish Monali Thakur a very happy birthday!
